TOMMY DECATALDO for Borough Council
We moved to New Providence in 2020, but I have been in the general community for nearly my entire life. I was raised in Scotch Plains and lived in Berkeley Heights for 8 years before moving to New Providence.
Volunteer work and giving back to the community has been engrained in my core values since I was a child. In the New Providence community, my family and I regularly volunteer our time. We are active members of the PTA and assist with many of the events at AWR and at our younger children’s daycare. When possible, I have also provided pro bono legal services to members of our community in need of family law guidance and donated substantial time to train other attorneys in family law, so they could assist those unable to afford counsel.
In my professional capacity, I serve in the voluntary role as a trustee of the Union and Essex County Bar Associations, as well as an officer of the Summit Bar Association, all of which exist to help ensure the administration of our justice in our community and surrounding towns. I also coordinate numerous charitable events through the various bar associations for which I am a member.
Prior to having children and moving to New Providence, I spent extensive time volunteering with pediatric AIDS patients in various different capacities. I volunteered at a clinic in Washington Heights for in-patient children with HIV/AIDS, and for many years I volunteered for a week long camp in the Hudson Valley for pediatric AIDS patients from New York City. I have also coached youth basketball and volunteered at clinics and camps, and as my children advance in age I look forward to one doing so here in New Providence.
I am running for Borough Council because I have a deep affection for New Providence and my family and I are truly grateful to be here. I am excited to join my efforts with Harry Clewell and Rupa Kale, and it is difficult to envision anyone more invested in New Providence than my running mates. On a daily basis, I am reminded of the small town feel and incredible warmth of our residents, and I am excited to do my part to give back to this community.
